Looking at the Greater Arabian Peninsula Through a Y-DNA Lens

Using the genography atlas (http://genography.xyvy.info/country-national-haplogroup-chart-dna), the countries of the Greater Arabian Peninsula (area bordered by Turkey to the northwest, Iran to the northeast, Israel to the southwest and Oman to the southeast), present an interesting panaroma of Y-DNA distribution. There are three basic types of Y-DNA population groupings in this area:

J-R-G Countries

                                    J%       R%      G%

Iran:                             30.9     24.9     10.9

Turkey:                        28.7     24        9.4

J-R-E Countries

                                    J%       R%      E%

Iraq:                             51.3     20.9     10.8

Bahrain:                        50.1     18.7     9.8

Syria:                            43.6     23.2     17.9

Qatar:                           36.5     19.5     18.9

Oman:                          35        22.9     16.9

UAE:                            29.2     29        13.2

J-E-R Countries

                                    J%       E%       R%

Yemen:                        64.8     19.2     3.9

Saudi Arabia:               54.8     17.5     16.6

West Bank/Gaza:         54.2     19.6     11

Jordan:                        53.8     19.3     13.5

Lebanon:                     47        19.8     11.6

Kuwait:                       46.5     16.9     13.19

Israel:                          40.5     19.5     18.1

Upon mapping these groupings I discovered that the JRG group consists of the two most northern countries, the JRE group consists of the next two most northern countries and continues along the east coast of the Saudi Arabian peninsula to Oman (except Kuwait), and the JER group includes Saudi Arabia and the nations running along the west coast of the peninsula (plus Kuwait which is something of an aberration).

These groupings would suggest possibly stable grounds for sub-regional socio-economic cooperation.
